Office web add-in at a glance

The Office web add-in brings primedocs to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, in the browser as well as in the Office applications on Windows and on the Mac. It opens as a side pane, the task pane, and creates new documents from templates without primedocs Desktop having to be installed. Outlook has its own add-in, see Outlook web add-in at a glance.

Opening

In Word, Excel or PowerPoint, click the primedocs button in the primedocs group on the Home tab. Depending on the installation, the group also carries a name prefix, for example «Test primedocs». On first opening, the add-in asks you to sign in. If your organisation has set up sign-in via Microsoft 365, it signs you in automatically.

Layout

The task pane shows the same interface as primedocs Web, adapted to the narrow width:

AreaContent
TemplatesEntry page of the add-in. There is no start page. Favorites and Recently used are pinned as rows at the top, followed by the folders. Search and filter work as in primedocs Web.
Template formProfile, Language and the fields of the template as in primedocs Web. At the bottom the Create & open button.
User menuSettings, profiles and the other entries as in primedocs Web.

Only web-capable templates are shown, and only those of the application currently open: Word templates in Word, Excel templates in Excel, PowerPoint templates in PowerPoint.

Creating a document

  1. Open the template in the overview or via the search.
  2. Check Profile and Language and fill in the fields.
  3. Click Create & open. primedocs creates the document and opens it in the same application as a new document, a new workbook or a new presentation.

The web add-in does not offer further outputs such as downloading, saving to OneDrive, series creation or the outputs a template provides for primedocs Web.

Differences to the Office COM add-ins

The web add-in creates new documents. The primedocs tab of the Office COM add-ins with its functions for an existing document is not available there. These include snippets, changing the profile or language afterwards and the Dispatch Manager. In return, the web add-in also runs in the browser and on the Mac and needs no local installation.

The setup for administrators is described in Office Web Add-In.
