Orientation: which add-in variant for what?
primedocs integrates with Microsoft Office in two ways. Both variants cover different Office environments and template formats:
| Web add-ins (these pages) | COM add-ins (Client Installation) | |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Office.js (JavaScript), task pane | COM add-ins, part of the primedocs desktop client |
| Office environments | Office in the browser (office.com), Office for Windows and macOS, new Outlook | Office desktop applications on Windows incl. Outlook (classic) |
| Templates | Web-enabled templates | Classic templates (Word add-in) and new template types (Common add-ins); full functionality of the desktop client |
| Distribution | Centrally via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (manifest URL) | MSI package of the client installation |
Troubleshooting: add-in rollout
If an add-in distributed via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or the Teams Admin Center does not appear for users, check the following points:
- Rollout duration: The distribution of new add-ins/apps by Microsoft can take up to 24 hours.
- Check the assignment: In the Admin Center, verify that the add-in is assigned to the affected users or groups.
- Clear the Office add-in cache: Office caches add-in data locally; clear the cache according to the Microsoft guide and restart the Office application.
- Manifest URL reachable?: Check whether the manifest URL of the primedocs instance is reachable from the workstation via HTTPS.
